Opening Number for Seder (Adapted from Hamilton)

(prepared by Zachary Krame and Evan Krame)

Aaron:
How does a Hebrew, born from, Yocheved and Amram,

dropped in the middle of a grassy Nile spot
Found by Miriam, abandoned, alone in a trench
Grow up to be a our nation’s greatest hero and a mensch?

Miriam:
As he parted, hiding outside of his land
Got the lords hire by seeing a bush fire
By bein’ a lot slier
By having a good squire
By age forty, he was balancing on a shaky high wire

Aaron:
So every day while slaves built pyramids to false gods
Pulling grain from the fields, he dreamt of even odds
Inside, he was longing for something to be a part of
But Pharaoh wouldn’t listen and wasn’t willing to barter

Miriam:
Then a slave master came, when Moses was around, man
The slaver slipped and fell and went a tumb-a-ling down
People blamed it all on Moses, he hightailed it out of town

And he found the tribe Midian, with daughters who were brown

Aaron:
Well the word came to him, it said, “Pharaoh is insane, man!”
We need a course correction so let’s get you back to Egypt land.
“Get your shepherd staff, don’t forget from whence you came, and
Then he’ll hear what you have to say! What do you say, man?"

Moses:
Pharaoh, let my people go!
My name is Moses let my people go!
There are miracles I haven’t done
But just you wait, just you wait

Miriam:
At age eighty, he would split, went for it, no kiddin
Two days later, he saw Aaron that's his brother, And said
Hey man I need a voice, so won't you come quick,

COMPANY:

Aarons speaking was better, and his lisp not as thick

Miriam:
Moved in with his family, the family committed by his side
Moses had nothin’ but God and pride, somethin’ true inside
A voice saying "(Moses) you’ve gotta free your nation"
He brought magic to the court but didn’t get a grand ovation

Aaron:
There would’ve been nothin’ left to do
For someone without God
He would’ve been just another slave
Without an influence so broad
Started workin’, observin’ Adonai who is lord
Bringing’ rivers red with blood and plagues that Egypt can’t afford
(Prayin’) for ev-er-y plague he can get his hands on
(Plannin’) for the future, see him now as he stands on (oooh)
The head of a tribe headed for a new land
In Sinai you can be a new man

COMPANY and (MOSES):
In Sinai you can be a new man (Just you wait)
In Sinai you can be a new man (Just you wait)
In Sinai you can be a new man

WOMEN:
In Sinai

COMPANY and (COMPANY):
Pharaoh, let my people go
We are waiting in the grain for you (waiting in the grain for you)
You could never back down
You never gave in to Pharo-o-oah
Moses told the people go
When Israelites call for you
Will they know what you overcame?
Will they follow or lay the blame?
The world will never be the same, oh

Miriam and (COMPANY):
Jews are heading towards desert now, quickly or they are gonna
(Just you wait)
Start 40 years of wandering, looking out there for mana
(Just you wait)
His enemies destroyed his rep, but Jews never forgot ‘him

Aaron:
Me? I spoke for him

Miriam
Me? I sang for him

Pharaoh:
And me? I’m the damn fool that ignored him

COMPANY:
There’s a million miracles to come
So just you wait...

Aaron:
WHAT DO YOU SAY MAN?

MOSES & COMPANY:
PHAROAH, LET MY PEOPLE GO
